WELLESLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL VISUAL ART

The visual arts program of the Wellesley Middle School will empower students to engage meaningfully in art making through a whole child approach- integrating head, heart, and hands and develop responsive, personal sense of visual literacy.

In 6th grade students will develop a more sophisticated application of techniques for drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and collage. 7th graders will then build on these skills to explore strategies for communicating through art with the theme of identity; exploring perceived identity, internal experience, and the interaction between and self and society. In both 6th and 7th grade students will continue to develop the ability to look at and discuss professional art work and to reference artists and style in homage. Students will develop high standards for craftsmanship through refining work. 8th graders will work more deeply with a medium and finally work independently.
